Father's Day Arrogance

Mom and Grandma get credit for her beauty,

Those of you who know me are probably doubting that this is actually my daughter, that there is any blood relation. Amazed that this angel is related to me in any way at all. She is mine, I have the DNA test to prove it. Well, not really. But we have mapped her freckles, and they match those of my mom perfectly.

I take full responsibility for her personality!

I took these pictures after taking a series of the pot garden growing on our balcony, those will now become next months post. The light was amazing. There was direct sunlight coming though the balcony door. She did her best not to squint, and I shot continuously for about 45 seconds knowing that there would be gold at the end of the rainbow. These are straight from the camera, except for cropping. I'll post the full gallery later.

Dear readers, I present to you my fathers day present to myself.

Worse things in the world

1. California's 2 a.m. end to alcohol sales. This was the first time a bartender did not stop us from drinking at 1:45. Nina called last call at 1:45 and made us pound our remaining beverage at 1:58. Thank you Nina.

2. The door to my room at The Westin, Market Street only opens if you pull the handle up.  Who the fuck pulls the handle up?  Not your boy Whiskey, and especially not when he has had a few cocktails and has to pee. But now you know.

3. Jackasses at Costco, not the employees but the rude ass customers. This is gonna be a whole post by itself on Costco etiquette, but in keeping with the theme of this here blog, not until next month.

Dear GKR

GKR this is in response to you

7 years ago I took a huge chance. I had just dropped out of College was sick of the going to class thing, had been dating a girl for 4 years that I just did not see a future in and was working as a phone jockey for a fortune 500 company.

I really had no plan for the future, no plan for any day expect to hang out with my buddies and get drunk.

I too was faced with a choice.

I could continue down the path I was going, live in the city I love, and continue down the safe path of a steady job and slow progressive advancement.

Or

I could take a chance and move to a new city, in a far off land (hey California is that different). A place I had never visited until the day I stepped off the plane to move their. Be part of something different, a huge chance the company was making in a entirely new direction.

I took a chance, and it has paid of huge. It is why I know You, Betty and Whiskey, It's why I love my job, It's why I am back in the city I love. Maybe its too soon in the grand scheme of things to know if it was the right choice but I would not change it for a second.

I say take a chance....go for the prize.

Rehab time

It is way past time for rehab to begin. I thought i was gonna start last Friday, but I had to drive home, so I took it easy at the Mexican Restaurant we went to after Happy Hour. The weekend was busy, too many errands to run to have more that a glass of wine or a Bourbon with dinner. Then I thought, maybe it will start at the St. Patty's day party at work during lunch on Friday, but I had a deadline to meet after lunch. Maybe at the beer bash after work? Nope. went home to watch USC come within an inch of tieing UCLA.

It's crunch time my friends. If I don't start rehab soon, it's too late for me. You see, March Madness is upon us. March Madness means it's time for the annual pilgrimage to the holiest of cities, the city where dreams are made and snuffed out equally as fast. It is time to pay the old whore a visit. It's time to go to Vegas.

So you see my dilemma. I have not been exercising my drinking muscles nearly as much as I should have. Family and work commitments have been made a priority, yeah, I know that's my own damn fault. I mean when was the last time you saw a drunk post from your pal Whiskey?

Tonight is the first night of the rest of my life. I must prepare my liver and kidneys for the week ahead. tonight's drink of choice is Bulleit Bourbon, did i mention it's 90 proof? That's 10 more proof than my bff JD!

I've had 2 so far. translation: if I were at a bar the tab would say 8. I think I am well on my way t a successful rehab over the next few days.

Here's the schedule:

Sunday

NASCAR at Bristol, the fastest half mile in motor sports. Not a fan of NASCAR? Take a peek tomorrow. There will be 43 cars running around what looks like a bull ring nose to tail, pretty amazing to see.

Big 12 tourney championship. Rick Barnes and the Longhorns are looking for their first Big 12 Conference title this is their third year in a row in the title game, the previous two loses have come at the hands of Kansas. Sunday's opponent? Kansas. The two teams have split the last 8 regular season games, the team with Home court advantage has won each of those contest. thanks for the research JD.

Selection Day. The brackets for the 2008 NCAA men's hoops tourney will be announced. there will be 65 very happy teams, about 15 very unhappy teams, and millions, no tens of millions of amateur prognosticators filling out brackets for bragging rights.

These events will all be accompanied by a cocktail or two.

Monday:

Work, should be a light day. Then home to do laundry and study up on the point spreads for Thursdays games. I do my best prognosticating with a couple cocktails in my system.

Tuesday:

Work. This is the last day f work for the next 7 days, so I will be sending it setting up ,y away email and voicemail messages. Sounds easy, right? Well, for some it might be, but for this particular time of year, it takes a few takes to get it just right. I don't want to sound too anxious. Then it's home to study up on Friday's spreads while pretending to watch the play in game, gotta keep the OL off my back somehow, all with a cocktail in hand.

Wednesday:

Pack whatever I manage to get my hands on, completely disregarding Monday's laundry and planning, head to the bank for a little spending money, the off to the airport for a couple Blonde Bocks with JD back for 2 bucks more.

I think I have a solid rehab plan set for myself. As always, I am open to suggestions.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

****DRUNK POST ALERT****

GKR, how's your pussy?
Betty, how does one get in on this photo assignment dealy?

Did you see the end of the Kansas v Texas A&M game? UGA v. MSU? Boise State New Mexico State? UCLA v Stanford? VA Tech v North Carolina? Arkansas v Tennessee? Wisconsin v Michigan State? Clemson v Duke? I hope you got to see at least one of these finishes, they were all nail biters and very fun to watch.

I would tell you to look for frequent updates on the vegas journey, but I don't want to disapoint you further. I mean if you got this far hoping it would get better, sorry.
